TELLURIDE: The place I live. The place I LOVE. Telluride is an amazing town nestled in the San Juan Mountains with so much to offer. I am grateful to live here and share this breathtaking place with visitors throughout the year.
Starting my day with yoga always makes me smile bigger and dance longer. I have more mental clarity and a stronger foundation on which to take on anything the day brings. Sara Ward is my current yogi guru. She teaches from her heart and brain. She loves science and does an amazing job of connecting eastern and western theory. One of my favorite yoga teachers is Naani Sheva. She is a fresh Forrest Yoga teacher who uses her daily life as inspiration to lead an amazing practice a few times a week. Check out her wonderful website.
I also love the Telluride Yoga Center, for its large windows facing the mountains and lush house plants that surround you. If you would rather do yoga in your own home check out RE:treats. They will come to you with yoga, organic food and massage!
I like to get my first meal at Butcher and the Baker. The smoked salmon plate (with a gluten-free biscuit made from scratch) and an almond chai gets me going on the right foot. They are now also open for dinner which is a special treat!
Of course I need a good book to go with my breakfast. I will always find a new read at the Wilkinson Public Library. They have incredible free programs, including yoga EVERYDAY! You can rent snowshoes for free or a board game for some indoor family fun. The talented librarians are always there to help if you get a little stuck.
If you are here in the winter I am sure you know about the skiing. It is insane!!! Telluride Ski Resort: the mountain is full of endless views and terrain. The variety of runs keeps me coming back for more.
If Nordic Skiing is more your thing, you will love our valley floor trails. I love going on a ski to Lawson and picking up lunch at aeomono.
In the summer there are many wonderful festivals to choose from. The season kicks off with MountainFilm. MountainFilm is why I know of so many amazing things happening all over the world.
My favorite music event is Jazz Fest. Its relaxed and full of music and art.
The Bluegrass Festival isn’t bad either. Come check out the massage booth where we have chair and table massage during the live music with the sun shining and the breeze flowing.
Maybe you have the urge to support this community through volunteering. This is one of my favorite activities. Telluride Adaptive Sports Program is where I go to get a new perspective on life. I help teach people with disabilities how to ski, bike, rock climb and they make my day every time!
If you’re in need of some herbal medicine check out Alpine Wellness. They grow all their own flowers right here in San Miguel County. Their knowledge and passion for Cannabis is astounding! And they are great folks.
I also love the San Miguel Resource Center. They help many people in this county. I love supporting the employees with chair massage, as they are an irreplaceable component to this community. Their big fundraiser, Chocolate Lovers Fling, is in February every year. It’s a blast, with dancing and amazing chocolates from local chefs.
Being in such a small town I never thought I would go to much theater. However, Telluride is blessed with a world-class theater program. Telluride Theater supports my need for theatrical art. They have many programs throughout the year. My favorites are Burlesque in March and the Christmas Carol in December.
Then there’s dinner. We all eat, might as well eat good. I love Siam. They have a book for a menu, which I am still working my way through.
I also love Pescado. They have amazing Indian food on Wednesday nights. Its small so call ahead if you have a big party.
MUSIC! It’s a big part of my life. The Sheridan Opera House is a historical landmark of Telluride. It’s small and intimate, with seated shows and a great wooden dance floor.
The Liberty is a sweet music spot. Underground on main street you can forget all your worries and dance the night away.
